Window Frosting Wizards

Toby sat in an empty office room. He was catching up on his day job whilst the wizards were distracted trying to wrangle an escaped sacrifice. They believed that he was on the bottom floor, trying to help them find the creature.

If they knew he was a human disguised as a wizard, fulfilling his job on the council’s time, they would destroy him. It was a risk he was willing to take. He didn’t fancy working a night shift and having zero time for himself. Being part of the council had been a fun idea, but it wasn’t a group you could leave without consequences. What had been a harmless prank and confusing internship had quickly spiralled into a lifelong commitment that he had to manage.

Luckily, the office glass tinting installation had occurred the day before. It gave him the privacy that he needed. The decorative window frosting was thick enough that he couldn’t be seen. After Lionel’s mysterious message during the meeting, Toby knew that he had to be more careful. The head wizard might have been onto him.

Luckily the council seemed to be too preoccupied to notice his hour-long ‘bathroom breaks’ or weak excuses. They were too busy testing out the commercial solar tinting that lined the outer glass of the building.

An invitation had already been sent to the vampire council for the upcoming Friday potluck. Toby supposed it had gone down well with the vampires, who for once didn’t return the invitation with a crude drawing telling them to ‘suck it’. It seemed everyone was enjoying the new office window frosting. Melbourne had even become the wizarding hotspot with news of the potential vampire alliance.

Even the goblins had been deterred by the decorative film. They had installed dragons and enchanted the printed wallpaper and frosted film to move in the presence of the creatures. Whilst their knowledge of enchantments was unmatched, the goblins had difficulty with most other areas that required intelligence.
